Hello lovely people! Thanks for your time as always despite your busy schedules. You are the reason this post just had to come *smiles*.
It was an exciting event last weekend in the heart of Enfield, North London as a sizeable number of fabulous ladies who are all foodies gathered for the first “So You Think You Can Cook” facebook group cookout gathering in the UK (well I think it’s the first) which was truly great fun! It was an idea put together by one of the lovely ladies in the group. There was a lot of effort and co-operation which had gone in to making it a successful event!
I salute those ladies and I’m sure they will reading this with a smile on their faces *smiles*
It was so good to put faces to the names of ladies I had been chatting to without seeing, and trust me, with our busy lives, the break and social scene was sooo needed (well, at least for me, lol).
Yours truly, along with my new face book friend were the MCs at the event and it was so amazing how well we worked together! People will think we had known each other for years, lol. We had lots of food and bakes on display, great music and quality photography in a vibrant atmosphere. Oh yes, a big shout out to the fabulous Deluxury cupcakes for the amazing “London Cookout” cupcakes and red velvet cake.
The highlight of the day was the ex Mayor of Enfield Cllr Kate Anolue who graced the occasion despite her busy schedules. She is such an inspiration and really gave us those words of encouragement to keep moving forward in life! We were so pleased she could honour our invitation. To me, that’s a fine example of humility and appreciating humanity. Yes, we found out she also likes to cook 🙂
(mua and my fellow lovely MC- guess I was checking out the food on display haha)
(don’t we look like twins)?
(the lovely Kemi Aloma. It was her birthday as well, awww)
(The kind hearted and lovely Esther Oshin C.E.O of Deluxury cupcakes) some of the cakes & cupcake she made (below) –
Ah yes, I won the first gift in a raffle draw. I was presented my gift by the ex-Mayor.
I obviously know what I’m going to be doing with it *smiles*- THANKS LADIES!
(A massive thanks to Oshyne Photography and Kemi Aloma of myBasira blog for the gorgeous pics). I was too busy with MC
duties and the food lol, you guys roooock)!
Ok , I did not just do the eating and MC ing, I also made some jerk chicken wings for the event. Remember the Christmas jerky duck that had tongues rolling on facebook? lol. Well check out the recipe here (or just type jerky duck in the search box if its not coming up) :). However, I made this marinade with the addition of rosemary, mixed spice, black pepper and more cloves to create a slightly different taste this time round.
(marinade blended and ready)
(marinated the wings and covered with clingfilm of clear plastic overnight in the fridge)
I woke up early in the morning and placed the marinated chicken wings in the oven for about 25mins @ 200°C. Then 120°C for another 10mins under close monitoring (you don’t want it burnt)
Ready! soft, juicy and tasty- The feedback was excellent 🙂
In summary, the event was worth all the stress and hassle! It was such great fun.
“Life is what you make of it, stay true to what you are, and appreciate God, life, humanity.
Remember, keep moving, keep up the focus and “keep making it happen”!
